Two and Two: Rapids – Crew (Playoffs Edition)

The MLS playoffs are underway and two matches have already been played in what is being called the play-in/Wild Card round. NY Redbulls defeated FC Dallas pretty handedly and now Colorado Rapids will be playing Sporting Kansas City in the first leg of the next round on Sunday in Colorado, then they will play again on Wednesday night in Kansas City. Colorado was able to move on with a 1-0 defeat of Columbus Crew who appeared very out of sync and just didn’t seem in the game at all, but at least gave it a couple late game shots to see if they could possibly get an equalizer, but just came up short.

RAPIDS
- Seem to have a plan and stuck to it. Came out started very slow but it appeared by design to focus on maintaining possession of the ball and strikes just befor the half time whistle. They came out in the second half looking to just keep possession and for the most part did just that. Columbus wasn’t able to get much going so Colorado was good with just scoring one goal and moving on.

- Did just enough to win. Obviously they were able to get the victory but Columbus could of very well had this game as Colorado literally did just enough to get the victory. It seemed like after Colorado scored they were happy with just trying to hold onto the 1-0 victory and lucked out despite Columbus’s late attempts to tie it up were able to hold on.

CREW
- Good late drives. It just happened to be a little to late for any sort of a comeback though. Of course those good drives were also desperation attempts, but with the way Colorado played in the second half I think that if Columbus would of scored then the game would of completely changed and it would of then been a game worth watching.

- Just couldn’t seem to get anything fully developed. Besides those few late attempts Columbus just couldn’t seem to get anything going on their end of the ball. Much of the game was completely controlled by Colorado who seemingly knew that Columbus didn’t have anything and just held onto the ball as much as they could with a few shots here and there to keep Columbus from going into full attack mode and possibly getting the late equalizer to possibly send the game into extra time.
