My last post was me talking about some of the awesome stuff that I got to do in 2011, so I figured this post should be about what a few of my goals are going to be in 2012. With the latter half of 2011 being so good for me I don't see how 2012 could get much better except for just doubling what I got to do. There is a possibility of a couple things making 2012 huge for me and I can only hope that they pan out for me.
Starting the year off with a bang the NSCAA convention this year in Kansas City and the MLS Superdraft and WPS draft are both here during that time in January. I have submitted for my media pass and it is looking promising but haven't been completely confirmed if I am indeed getting to go or not. There is a ton of stuff going on during that week and weekend. There is one thing that I would like to do and that is get my national coaching diploma, but I know I will miss out on that. I should however be getting the chance to go to a couple special breakfast meals to catch some great talk about soccer stuff. Not to mention getting to see both the major soccer leagues in the United States drafts.
The CONCACAF have also confirmed that there will be games played at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park so I will be submitting to get a media pass to go to those games as well and of course to go along with that will be hopefully getting my pass to go back to the Sporting Kansas City games this year to cover them.
I am also starting up my own youth soccer club to convert my oldest son's soccer team over to a competitive team and hopefully to build it up by also adding other teams to the club. I have been blessed to have an amazing team with amazing parents of all the kids that have been incredibly supportive and I am just so thankful and stoked about being able to do this.
Something that kind of goes along with forming my own youth club is further developing the corporate soccer league that I started almost 5 years ago and made bigger last year by inviting other companies to join the league. I am really hoping to get to expand that out even more this year and potentially next year making it a full blown 11v11 full field league.
With all this media stuff and other soccer stuff I could only wish that I could get paid something for my time and services. Hopefully that will be something that comes along a little more down the road. Something else that I am looking at doing to go along with my blogging is podcasting, which is like an audio blog, or I should say at least get back into podcasting as I did it for a little while a couple years back and really miss it. Something else that kind of goes along with all this blogging is that I have decided that I would kind of like to write some sort of a book, so one of my big goals for 2012 is to completely write a book. Nothing huge, but probably around 50 to 100 pages to give me a very obtainable goal in my opinion.
It also looks like I have been given some of the tools to finally be able to start wood carving and a little bit of wood working as I received some stuff for Christmas to help me get into wood carving and I have already started on my first project. Wood working stuff is something that I have really wanted to get into for quite a few years now. Both my grandfathers did quite a bit of really good woodworking stuff and I would just like to try my hand at it.
Closing up for anybody that has possibly made it this far which probably isn't many people if any I have some big plans for 2012 besides turning 30 and I just think that putting them down in written form will hopefully give me more motivation to do so. I am sure that there is something that I have missed, but I know that I have it written down, but I am not currently referring to my written list of goals to write this post yet I am still insanely high on the word count for a single blog post, which I think will be one of my other goals this year and to try and create a lot more post but keep them shorter then I have been making them.
I hope that all of you are ready for the new year and have good goals or resolutions if you would like to call them that planned for the upcoming year.
Now that 2011 has drawn to a closure I figured I would just take some time to reflect a few things that has happened to me in 2011 and possibly talk about a few things I would like to accomplish in 2012. I'm not trying to state that 2011 was special in any way from possibly any other year, but I can say that some things have happened this year that I figured couldn't happen to me. Mainly all the media stuff that I was able to get started this year by simply blogging. Yeah I am not making a single dime off of it so far and from talking to friends that have also been doing media stuff for a long time, I think I am in it for the long haul and hopefully to even make this a possible career move someday and to actually get paid to do this media stuff. It doesn't seem like it is that big of a deal to everybody, but this is quite possibly something that I have always kind of been into most of my life. Most of the people that know me personally know that I love to talk and doing all this writing/blogging is pretty much just me talking in written form.
Because of this blog I was able to obtain a media pass to the MLS Sporting Kansas City home games about half way through the season, because I was just too nervous to even think that I could get it before hand. Eventually somebody (Andy Edwards) pushed me and finally told me to quit screwing around and just do it. So I did and it was really painless. Because of being able to do that I put in for a media pass at the Women's National Team game against Canada when they played at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park and to my surprise was given one. After that I decided that I really wanted to keep doing this but shortly after the season seemed to be over, but the indoor soccer season was starting. It took me a little while to get my media pass for the Comets but I finally got it and was able to do something else that I thought I would never get to do. That was play in a media soccer game during halftime.
Obviously these things seem to have to all do with soccer, well that just seems to be the thing that has really made me happy lately to also include my family. I have been coaching my oldest son's soccer team for a couple years now and we are going to go competitive in the spring season and play up to U9. My youngest son has also started playing soccer at U5 and it is still a great thrill. All the boys that I coach exhaust me to no end, but I wouldn't ask for anything else in the world as I truly love it and hope that one day soon that I could put more focus on it as well like I would with the media stuff that I have been doing.
I have also been playing a lot of soccer in the past few years and something that has been like a baby to me is a company league that I started over 4 years ago. Well this past spring I decided that if I wanted the league to stick around for several more years to come that I should expand out and so I invited other companies to the league and instead of just calling it the company soccer league I started referring to it as the Corporate Soccer league. We had a total of 8 teams and 4 companies playing in the league. My company holding 5 of the teams. This upcoming year I am looking to expand out even more and to hopefully add at least one more company and have up to 10 teams. This league I believe is one of those things that if you put work into it over time and just let it run its course that it will build and prosper. So far so good, and something that I know has helped is my continuous want to make sure it is better.
Soccer isn't everything that has happened to me this year though either. I was able to go on a trip this year that I figured I would probably never get to go on and that was to Hawaii on a seven day cruise around the islands. We were able to see some of the most beautiful sites a person could ever see. We got to see parts of history that I didn't think I would ever lay eyes on like Pearl Harbor, got to go snorkeling out in the ocean, see whales during mating season, and see probably the most dolphins in one area then I will ever see in my entire life combined. This is one of those possible once in a life time opportunities and I am so glad that I was able to go with most my family. Hopefully one day I will get to go back with my boys.
Not everything this year was great though. There were all sorts of hard times, like me having a severe lack of focus at work which I still don't think that I am completely over and it has made me wonder if this is the job line that I want to be in for the next 20+ years so that I can retire or do I want to possibly pursue something else like the media thing. I do think I want to pursue that, but that will have to be a little further down the line, so for the time being I better make sure I do good work at my job. One of the other big issues that happened this year was several family member having some major illnesses, but I won't go too much into detail about those, but I will say that I am glad that they are all recovering seemingly well. There is obviously always the lost friends part, which as I get older seems to become more and more of problem. It really makes me want to reach out to all my former close friends that I just happen to fall out of touch with.
All in all I cannot really complain about 2011 even though I would argue for my sake that it could of been a lot better, but I am also fully aware that is could be a lot worse and I just hope that 2012 does not follow that second thought as I really would prefer not to have a worse year then the one before, but I know that nobody ever wants to have a bad year.
I will bid all of you good year in 2012 and please stay tuned for more stuff from me and all my other friends that are posting on this website. I hope to have big plans for this site in the next year, but I will those in another blog post to be posted soon.
I would like to thank all my followers, friends, and even the occsional random person that might of just stumbled upon this website.
Good luck in 2012!!!
I remember when I first launched my Facebook profile. It was around 2005, and you could only have a page if you had a college email address. It was designed for used among college students and was to be primarily used for college work related content. Yes, people still used it for messages and other social media outlets, but you knew and/or saw everyone and you all had similar interests such as the college you were attending.
Now Facebook has evolved into this monster of a social media website. It has taken many year to come this far, and it is simply getting out of control. I am not talking about all the advertisements that are now taking up every available square inch of the site, no. My concern is simply that people are using Facebook for things that are either inappropriate or unnecessary.
People are starting to lose their ability to speak in public because they can say everything behind closed doors in the safety of their own homes. They do not like to confront people, but would rather talk trash from a long-distance setting. It keeps getting worse for the next generation. Facebook is now the fad that only the "cool" kids have! If you don't have one, you must not be cool! Even school bullies have taken to Facebook to publicly humiliate and terrorize other students! There have been far to many recent accounts of young kids who are bullied at school, then go home and realize that their Facebook profile has been plastered with wall posts and other comments which continue to degrade or humiliate them even after the school day has ended. Then that child, does not know how to handle the stress and feels that they cannot escape it, and their only resort is suicide....and blog about it or post it on? You guessed it...Facebook! Why not simply delete those people from your account, or better yet... just delete your account! You don't need it, your life is to precious to waste caring about something so trivial as middle school or high school bullies.
I have seen time and time again, when someone experiences something traumatic. I am not talking about the loss of a loved one, but maybe a break-up, or simply an argument. Before, they would call their friends or their inner-circle of close confidants and vent in a semi-controlled manner. Now, with Facebook being so easily accessible via your cell phone, it is uploaded for public viewing almost immediately! I understand that sometimes, it may feel warranted, but once reality sets in...it never is! The internet is a fickle beast, and once the information is out there, its out there forever. You can never un-see something, you may think that by simply deleting things, everyone will simply forget. This is not the case! Someone may see it, and then repost in another page, or spread the gossip through another social media site. I think people are so caught up in the moment and lose site of reality, and do they only thing that comes natural to them.
There is no longer the time when you can go to your room and listen to loud music and vent in your on private way. People believe that this information, should be available for public knowledge ASAP! This is the wrong attitude to have. There is a time for sorrow, there is a time for anger and there is a time for recovery! People get so caught up in the anger phase, and don't think about things in a calm and collected manner. I am not saying that I am 100% innocent, but recently I have learned that by embracing the situation and looking at it from a calm place, don't make any rash decisions...you CAN make it through any troubling situation! There is always a light at the end of the tunnel, but you have to get their through a calm demeanor and attitude. You can be angry, you can be sad...but be smart about it!
Then there are the constant updates. "I woke up late", "Just bought a coffee", "I saw this person do this silly thing"...just let me be the first to inform you...NO ONE CARES! Simply put, some people use Facebook and Twitter to constantly provide a real time feed into their daily lives. From the moment they get up, to the moment they go to sleep, it is constant updates all day...every day...not even holidays are safe! Who needs to know what you do everyday? If I were a serial killer or stalker, all this information would be very easily accessible and very beneficial to my ultimate goal....thank God for you, that I am neither one of those! Do you even know who is sitting on the other side of that computer? How do you know that the person you are talking to is even the person who they say they are? What about that link sent to you....should you even click it? There are too many cases of people setting up a fake profile to lure people into a dangerous situation.
There are also too many instances of hackers and computer wizards that attach viruses to links and can easily steal all your personal information with the click of a button. We are constantly teach or kids to "Say No to Strangers", but all a stranger needs is a Facebook or other social media account, and all that information is readily available. Then there are the photos! Why oh why, do you post photos of things online which you would not like everyone to see? This is not just confined to social media, but through email and cell phone text messages. Are people really that dumb or naive? All it takes is one accidental post, or send and poof....the whole world know or sees! You see most of this through the celebrity community...which makes it worse because these are the people are children look up to....unfortunately, most children want to grow up and be like the latest and greatest actor, athlete, musician. No child want to be like Dr. Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, Gandhi, Mother Theresa. These people were role models, and its a shame that kids now-a-days ,just don't know it.
This rant is in now way targeted at a single person or situation. I have seen several instances throughout life where people make any one or all of the previous mistakes, myself included! Social media outlets are nice to have. They area way to share with family and close friends photos and memories that would normally be lost either because of living far apart or simply a timing thing. Maybe its a way to remember a loved one who was taken too early or maybe a way to quickly catch up with an old friend. There are many ways social media sites benefit the general public, but most of them are lost behind all the constant updates, unnecessary or inappropriate posts and comments. I think people need to make time out from their computers, or other social media devices and simply get to know people in the old fashion manner. Go grab a drink or lunch, go see a movie...for God Sake...just talk to people in person. Share your memories and relive the good times with them in a normal fashion. Instead of Facebook....I say people unplug and get back to this little thing called "Face-time!"
Veteran's day is upon us and it is time for those to honor veterans whether they be young or old.
It has seem that people the last decade have really taken an appreciation for veterans and given them the respect that they deserve. It would seem like it should be that way but it hasn't always been that way for some reason. Yeah more then half the veterans might not of actually put their life on the line but 99% of people don't even serve in the armed forces, so take that into consideration when you might see someone who did serve but didn't do much and you jus blow them off or show them disrespect.
When I was was younger it just always seemed like the only veterans I possibly knew we're my grandpa's age when in reality they are all over the place and as I get older I find that out more and more each year but a lot of them don't always go on and on about it. They figured they were just doing their job and why should they receive praise for that.
I am a lot like that. I personally served six plus year in the Marine Corps Reserves with a year of that being activated during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. I didn't do hardly anything besides what was asked of me and I tend to not go out seeking rewards or praise for what I did. I most times don't really know what to do when somebody finds out I was a vet and thanks me for my service because as soon as they do my mind immediately goes to the men and women that actually gave their lives for our country.
Even people like my great uncle who survived the attack on Pearl Harbor when he was stationed on the U.S.S Oklahoma and was thrown from the ship during the attack as he was headed towards church service. He was also later involved in the Midway Conflict. he survived all that was just recently passed away this year.
It is people like him that all of us, even other veterans, that I think we should be celebrating and honoring the most. But that isn't the way things work and it is still a great honor to be recognized on days like this.
We recently lost a man that only comes along every so often and does something truly incredible and is among few people that can say changed the way this world looks at stuff and even interacts for that matter. Of course everybody knows him as the guy that ran Apple and pretty much created the iPod which changed the way the world listens to music, then was able to put that together with a phone that roughly something like 1% of the world now has a version of, but he did more then just that.
He defied things that people said couldn't be done. One company said that the Mac would never live up to expectations of a PC, but now it is one of the leading devices in the market. He was once forced out of running Apple only to return something like 12 years later, when Apple who was starting to fail bought Steve Jobs company that he formed after Apple ousted him, and held that until the summer of 2011, where he eventually stepped down as CEO from health problems which finally got the better of him in October of 2011 at the age of only 56.
When I originally sat down to do this post I had all these ideas of what I was actually going to say, but simply I guess I just don't know as much about the man as I should besides the fact that the simple idea of what he did for this world helps motivate people such as myself to do even the slightest of thing as best as we can. I only hope that I can continue to keep a man like Steve Jobs in my head to help inspire me.
I was recently looking through some famous quotes of Steve Jobs and one of the ones I came across that I definitely want to try and follow closely and so far I think I do a decent job is. "My job is not to be easy people. My job is to take these great people we have and to push them and make them even better." That is a quote that I have tried to keep in my head most recently with my youth soccer team. They have been a great team, but I have to push them to make them even better. I even recently took a couple huge steps to ensure that happens. Yeah sure my team may of finally lost a game, but I have to not get discouraged nor let the team get that way and just keep focusing on what I'm striving to make the team do and that is make them even better.
With one going through 100 blog post in less then 100 days, any late comers might have missed a few post that could potentially spark their interest.
I can't really say which one is my favorite, and I would like to think that i didn't favor just one topic, besides maybe the world cup, but I believe I did a good job at making each and every article unique in its own way. Which over a span of almost 100 blog post, should be quite challenging, but I think I did good.
The most important thing to me though is that I started gaining more and more readers and followers of my blog, but the even higher, and I guess you could say critical thing is that those people enjoyed my post. I ask of each of you though that if you do enjoy it, please share with a friend. If you don't enjoy it, but still check it out, and think you know somebody that would at least get a kick out of a few of my post, then defiantly send it to them by using that share button after each post.
Here is a list of each blog post including this one, and then the remaining few, to be posted in the next two weeks. (Each one is linked except this one and the remaining 3.)

100/100 Where To Go From Here
I'm a little late to the buying stuff online, because I use to like to be able to get whatever it was that I was buying as soon as I could and enjoy it, whether it be electronics, movies, games, or what have you. But I have recently come to the conclusion that there are a lot of people that I can't stand, most of them being people that I don't know, but that's neither here nor there. I have to buy stuff though, right? Right, so there is a solution to my possible problem and that is Amazon.com. Now of course I have to wait for my stuff to show up, but I think its worth the wait, to not deal with people acting stupid. Of course my wife does a lot of the shopping as well, and I get to here about how stupid people can be or worse (see peopleofwalmart.com.)
There is also the problem of money. Right now with us having the debt that we do, and not getting more, we are trying to focus on just buy the basic stuff that we need, and it is just easier, and possibly a little cheaper to just go to the grocery store, walmart, or target to get what we need, but you better believe that once I can just wait, and have the money too, then I will probably start using Amazon a lot more often.
Also, one of the really cool features on Amazon.com is the wish list. You create an amazon account and then you can just start adding stuff to your wish list that you can go to later and buy stuff from it, or even share with family and friends.
I recently had my 28th birthday, and the major thing that I wanted was an external hard drive, please see the previous post. Well I was completely caught off by surprise and was given a 13" MacBook Pro.
I have been wanting a mac for several years, but was under the impression that I wouldn't get one, till I was most likely debt free, which is going alright. It has been a good learning experience too, and I am very slowly trying to get all my old files, which filled up most my new mac, organized into the proper folders. Mac is suppose to be very organized I guess, and I'm trying to get to that point, but I have a lot of work to do, and I'm a busy person.
Apple tends to put out amazing products and I rarely hear complaints from family and friends that they don't like their product, which is usually just an iPod or iPhone, but there are few complaints. One of the things that is really cool with the MacBook Pro or MBP as some people call it, is the track pad, that allows different things to happen when you use one, two, three, and four fingers, but I would really like to get one of those magic mouses for it, because I click on the track pad and something happens that I didn't want. I guess that is just part of the learning experience of becoming a mac owner.
I'm sure I will start posting more and more about the mac, but right now I am just trying to learn as much as I could, after all I have only had it like 3 weeks. I am glad to have all my music back though.
Do you have a ton of computer media that you would like to have on the go, but a jump drive doesn't have enough capacity? Most of you are starting to think at what all you could possibly have that would not fit on a jump drive. Well try movies, they are quite large. Another thing that can get to big for a jump drive is music. Yes music, you would be surprised how much music one can accumulate over time.
External Hard Drives now days keep getting bigger and bigger in popularity and capacity, but at the same time, with the advances in technology, keep getting smaller and smaller. Additionally with the advances in technology you are starting to be able to plug such devices into almost any device that accepts a USB port and access your files like music, movies, pictures and more.
Most of us thought we would never be able to fill up 1 GB of storage and now we are on the verge of having over 1 TB of files on our computers, thus a reason to have a good backup system. How much would it suck to lose all those photos and videos of our loved ones? I mean, I have TONS of pictures of the kids, and hopefully soon I will start having a lot of videos of the kids doing crazy things, because of the type of camcorders out there now days, you pretty much have to have a computer.
