Veteran’s Day – 2011

Veteran's day is upon us and it is time for those to honor veterans whether they be young or old.

It has seem that people the last decade have really taken an appreciation for veterans and given them the respect that they deserve. It would seem like it should be that way but it hasn't always been that way for some reason. Yeah more then half the veterans might not of actually put their life on the line but 99% of people don't even serve in the armed forces, so take that into consideration when you might see someone who did serve but didn't do much and you jus blow them off or show them disrespect.

When I was was younger it just always seemed like the only veterans I possibly knew we're my grandpa's age when in reality they are all over the place and as I get older I find that out more and more each year but a lot of them don't always go on and on about it. They figured they were just doing their job and why should they receive praise for that.

I am a lot like that. I personally served six plus year in the Marine Corps Reserves with a year of that being activated during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. I didn't do hardly anything besides what was asked of me and I tend to not go out seeking rewards or praise for what I did. I most times don't really know what to do when somebody finds out I was a vet and thanks me for my service because as soon as they do my mind immediately goes to the men and women that actually gave their lives for our country.

Even people like my great uncle who survived the attack on Pearl Harbor when he was stationed on the U.S.S Oklahoma and was thrown from the ship during the attack as he was headed towards church service. He was also later involved in the Midway Conflict. he survived all that was just recently passed away this year.

It is people like him that all of us, even other veterans, that I think we should be celebrating and honoring the most. But that isn't the way things work and it is still a great honor to be recognized on days like this.

Bill & Ted was a Tribute to Doctor Who

First let me state that I don't have any solid facts to prove anything that I am about to say. Honestly anything on any of my post are most likely my opinion and should pretty much be taken as so. I wanted to post on this topic because I was recently listening to Chris Hardwick's Nerdist podcast and this topic kind of came up and I wanted to follow up on it a little more and see if I could possible spark a little more interest.

Anybody my age or close has most likely seen Bill & Teds Excellent Adventure and Bogus Journey. Both of these movies I would like to say are great but again that is my opinion and that is the opinion of a movie nerd, although I'm sure a lot of people would agree with me. Bill & Ted's movie saga is about two young struggling musicians that are given a time traveling phone booth and the rest of the story is in the movies.

Almost anybody you talk to has probably heard of Doctor Who but quite a few have probably not seen it and even fewer could probably tell you anything about Doctor Who. Well Doctor Who is a time lord that travels through time saving people and keeping disasters from happening. He travels in a machine called a Tardis which looks like a 1970s style London Police Box that looks like a phone booth, which conveniently does not work well until later I guess but I haven't made it that far into the series.

What is the connection here? The phone booth. Doctor Who is obviously quite a bit older then the Bill & Ted movies, although a lot of recent Doctor Who fans probably don't realize that, so I ask is Bill & Ted's time traveling phone booth a tribute to the Doctor Who's Tardis?

I encourage you to watch either or both Bill & Ted movies and then start watching Doctor Who. In my opinion both are exceptionally great and although I said my opinion can be taken as just that I typically don't suggest things that I don't think people will enjoy.

97/100 What All My 100 Blog Post Were/Going to be.

With one going through 100 blog post in less then 100 days, any late comers might have missed a few post that could potentially spark their interest.

I can't really say which one is my favorite, and I would like to think that i didn't favor just one topic, besides maybe the world cup, but I believe I did a good job at making each and every article unique in its own way. Which over a span of almost 100 blog post, should be quite challenging, but I think I did good.

The most important thing to me though is that I started gaining more and more readers and followers of my blog, but the even higher, and I guess you could say critical thing is that those people enjoyed my post. I ask of each of you though that if you do enjoy it, please share with a friend. If you don't enjoy it, but still check it out, and think you know somebody that would at least get a kick out of a few of my post, then defiantly send it to them by using that share button after each post.

Here is a list of each blog post including this one, and then the remaining few, to be posted in the next two weeks. (Each one is linked except this one and the remaining 3.)

100/100 Where To Go From Here

Where can one person go, to virtually buy anything and everything that they could want and/or need?

I'm a little late to the buying stuff online, because I use to like to be able to get whatever it was that I was buying as soon as I could and enjoy it, whether it be electronics, movies, games, or what have you. But I have recently come to the conclusion that there are a lot of people that I can't stand, most of them being people that I don't know, but that's neither here nor there. I have to buy stuff though, right? Right, so there is a solution to my possible problem and that is Now of course I have to wait for my stuff to show up, but I think its worth the wait, to not deal with people acting stupid. Of course my wife does a lot of the shopping as well, and I get to here about how stupid people can be or worse (see

There is also the problem of money. Right now with us having the debt that we do, and not getting more, we are trying to focus on just buy the basic stuff that we need, and it is just easier, and possibly a little cheaper to just go to the grocery store, walmart, or target to get what we need, but you better believe that once I can just wait, and have the money too, then I will probably start using Amazon a lot more often.

Also, one of the really cool features on is the wish list. You create an amazon account and then you can just start adding stuff to your wish list that you can go to later and buy stuff from it, or even share with family and friends.

85/100 Man Caves

Something that you probably hear about more and more lately is something called a man cave. Just what could this crazy contraption be? Well sorry ladies, its not a place you can put your husband in and keep him locked up, but it is something that your man probably wouldn't mind being locked up in.

A man cave or mantuary as it is sometimes called is like a sanctuary for a guy and most likely several friends depending on the type of cave to retreat to and get that proverbial getting away from it all type of place. A man cave can be any type of room really to include any sort of items that a specific man would want. Looking at an article, says that it could even help a marriage. Now I cannot say that is true or not, but I can defiantly see the argument in that idea.

Personally, my man cave would be like a personal home theater where I could watch movies and play video games. Now I know better then to just make it a personal room for me, and I would obviously have to share it, but think about it guys. How nice would it be to have a place to go to when friends came over that you could go hang out in and shoot the shit, watch the game, watch old favorite movies that your wife thinks are completely retarded, or play some video games and you could be somewhat loud (depending on the time) and not have to worry about if your bothering somebody.

What your man cave have in it?

74/100 Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy

Also know as the greatest 5 part trilogy, is a science fiction comedy story that has been made into a radio series program, tv mini-series, novels, movies, video games, and probably several other things that I'm missing.

I have manage to work my way through most of the novels via audio book, but plan to start over again by actually reading the novel that has all 5 main books in one novel. This really is a good story though that involves science fiction and comedy together, which seems to be hard to pull off. I didn't know that much about H2G2 as it is sometimes called until the movie came out in 2005 and automatically started loving it, and then was able to watch the TV series that was produced by BBC decades ago, and although not very good producing was still very interesting.

Like I said before, I have not completed the story, but apparently the story hasn't been completely finished. The original author Douglas Adams passed away during the making of the 2005 film, but apparently there is now a 6th book that has been authored by Eoin Colfer, and all because Douglas Adams felt the need to continue the story, but because of his passing was not able to, but his wife decided to fullfill his desire and hand picked and closely followed the release of this new book.

If you haven't ever really checked it out then I sersiously suggest you go check out the first two books if anything. The movie in my opinion is great, but excludes some things and changes some things, just as most movies doo.

73/100 Worst Trilogies

I just posted about Top Trilogies, and personally I cannot go with out also finding out what trilogies other people including myself find to be the worst.

Again I emphasis trilogies, so this list will not include sagas like Star Wars despite everybody keeping them seperated into trilogies, and most people saying that the original trilogy is awesome, and the first 3 episodes are terrible (fanboys,) I consider it a saga. I will also not be including Pirates of the Caribbean, because the 4th installment will be out shortly. Other trilogies that you might be thinking of that I will not be counting for similar reasons is Die Hard, Spiderman, Terminator, and X-Men. Granted all those in my opinion wouldn't even be counted towards even average.

I have seperated my list into 4 categories: Average (even though I included it in my recent post, some would look at Average as not being good enough), Below Average, Terrible, (and then for the ones that I don’t know, but think might fall in one of those categories) Not A Clue.

These are in no particular order, because I don’t like doing top 10 list.

-Jurassic Park
-Legally Blonde
-The Transporter
-The Bad News Bears
-Crocodile Dundee
-Rush Hour
-Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (although some count the newer animated one as part of the series, but I happen to view it seperately although it still follows the time line.)
-The Naked Gun
-Ice Age

Below Average
-From Dusk Till Dawn
-I Know What You Did Last Summer
-The Skulls
-Class of Nuke'Em High
-Free Willy
-Oh, God
-The Santa Clause
-The Mighty Ducks
-Look Who's Talking

Personally there are several movies in that last category that I like, but I think the simple fact that they went beyond one and with a couple past two movies it messed up the entire series, and makes the good movie look bad.

Jeepers Creepers - 3rd is suppose to be coming out soon.

There are not many movies that I absolutely dislike, but this movie topped that category easily, and probably will refuse to even watch the 2nd or 3rd of that series.

Not a Clue
-Goal! – Average +/-
-Slap Shot - Below Average +/-
-Manic Cop - I hear its worse then Jeepers Creepers
-The Cutting Edge - Below Average +/-
-K-9 - Below Average +/-
-The Cannon Ball Run - Average or lower
-The Count of Monte Cristo – Average +/-
-Cube - Below Average +/-
-The Grudge – Average +/-
-The Hills Have Eyes – Average +/-
-Spy Kids - Below Average +/-
-Ong Bak – Average +/-
-High School Musical - Below Average +/- (most would probably put this in another category below terrible though)

72/100 Top Trilogies

My last post was about Yahoo's 100 Movies to see before you die, and if you look at that list you will see that there are quite a few movies that are part of a series, and more spefically trilogies. Everybody always seems to get into the debate of which trilogies are the best, and I'm here to post my opinion (that I'm an expert about) on which TRILOGIES I think are good. I emphasis trilogies, so this list will not include sagas like Star Wars despite everybody keeping them seperated into trilogies, I consider it a saga. I will also not be including Pirates of the Caribbean, because the 4th installment will be out shortly. Other trilogies that you might be thinking of that I will not be counting for similar reasons is Die Hard, Spiderman, Terminator, and X-Men

I have seperated my list into 4 categories: Good, Above Average, Average, (and then for the ones that I don't know, but think might fall in one of those categories) Not A Clue

These are in no particular order, because I don't like doing top 10 list.

-The Lord of the Rings
-The God Father
-Transformers (yes the 3rd hasn't come out yet, but I'm counting it)
-Resident Evil
-Ocean's Trilogy (Ocean's 11, 12, & 13)
-Mexico Trilogy (El Mariachi, Desperado, Once Upon a Time in Mexico)
-Austin Powers
-Toy Story

Above Average
-The Matrix
-Major League
-The Addams Family
-Beverly Hills Cop
-Evil Dead
-The Never Ending Story
-The Mummy
-Mission: Impossible
-Bourne Series (Identity, Supremacy, Ultimatum) although it looks like a 4th might be starting up.
-Back to the Future

-Jurassic Park
-Legally Blonde
-The Transporter
-The Bad News Bears
-Crocodile Dundee
-Rush Hour
-Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (although some count the newer animated one as part of the series, but I happen to view it seperately although it still follows the time line.)
-The Naked Gun
-Ice Age

Not a Clue
Mad Max - Above Average +/-
Goal! - Average +/-
The Count of Monte Cristo - Average +/-
The Grudge - Average +/-
The Hills Have Eyes - Average +/-
Ong Bak - Average +/-

71/100 Yahoo! 100 Movies to see before you die?

This current post is quickly turning itself into a project, but Yahoo! recently put out a list of 100 movies to see before you die. Kind of a 100 greatest movies of all time or I guess you can call it that.

Well I went through it, and found out that I have only completely watched 35 of the 100. I say completely because there are parts of a lot of these that I have seen just not all of it. With realizing that I had only seen 35 of the 100 must see movies before I go to the great beyond, I looked it over again to see which movies I agreed with that should be must see movies, and found 31 more. Well 35 and 31 don't make 100 the last time I checked.

This is where my new project is starting ot kick in, because I went over to IMDb and started looking at there top 250 and still found several that I dissagreed with, so I am curretnly trying to put a list of movies together that I personally think should be on a must watch list and then another list of honorable mentions. Of course I realize that my list are based on my opinion, but I'm an expert at my opinion and I really like movies, so BACK OFF!

63/100 Mystery Science Theater 3000

Those that have watched MST3K, should know this person.

Mystery Science Theater 3000 or simply MST3K to anybody that has ever watched it more then once, was a comedy show that would just slaughter bad, B-movie science fiction movies verbally. The showed aired once a week for approx. 11 years. Yes there are actually that many bad b-movies and many more if you take account that the show stopped airing in 1999.

The idea behind the show was to have a man that had been trapped on a space ship as part of a science experiement watch these movies and see the outcome. The man that was trapped built some robots to help him provide hilarious commentary through out the film and point out several flaws in every movie they watched.

Needless to say the show probably ran a lot longer then most people would like because they would pretty much watch the entire film, but nevertheless the show was probably one of the best shows at the time, and I can safely say that it is probably one of the only times I didn't mind people talking constantly during a movie.

If you ever want to get an idea of what the show was like, then you can even watch their own film intitled Mystery Science Theater 3000:The Movie, along with the almost 200 episodes that they had in that 11 year span. Personally one of the best in my opinion to watch is "Mitchell"

Since the ending of MST3K Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett (all 3 having been major characters on MST3K) started RiffTrax in 2006 which is suppose to provide similar audio commentaries that are downloadable.

I haven't really been able to check RiffTrax out to closely, but I'm sure its pretty good.
