87/100 Camelbak

During my time in the Corps, as the salty dogs of the Marine Corps would say, a newer piece of revolutionary equipment came out called the camelbak. This changed how all service members would drink water almost immediately. Usually any new piece of equipment takes forever to get approved by the military, but it was almost as if everybody just decided that this was a must have item.

I spent $50 on a pretty good one, and loved it. It was called the stealth, it had a lower profile then most, and although it didn't have storage on it like most camelbaks did, I was able to wear it with pretty much anything and everything, including with a pack on over-top of the camelbak.

The camelbak has become popular and versatile enough that long distance runners have also been using it them. So what was one of the first things you would think I would be looking for when I started running my longer runs for my marathon training? That's right my camelbak. Only problem is that I have seemed to of miss placed my amazing camelbak. My biggest problem is that I could really use it, especially with my longer runs now being over 10 miles. But I have no clue where it got to, and after not using it for a few years, I don't even know where I could of put it. I thought I knew, but yep not a clue.

So I am trying to save up to get a new one, but I also have to save up to pay for my marathon entry fee. It really stinks not having a camelbak, but I will just keep having to place bottles of water along my routes and hope that somebody doesn't mess with them or worse, an animal piss on them.

75/100 Bamboo Bicycle

One of my first post on this 100/100 venture was about bicycle repair and just how badly I was doing at it. Well I was able to find somebody to atleast make my bike serviceable for the race I was going to be in, but still needs a lot of repair. (oh hey look there is a donate button right there to the left)

While the guy, that works out of his personal home garage, was fixing my bike he asked how I found out about him, and thought that I had seen a post about his bamboo bikes.

Apparently he makes these bamboo framed bikes, and they are starting to become quite popular, so I decided to look into it a little bit (wikipedia) and one of the features that I guess is designed in mind when this bike is made is vibration damping, crash tolerance, and of course a more natural look of the bike. I guess having a bamboo framed bike provides a very smooth and comfortable ride.

I thought it was pretty crazy looking, but still pretty cool that somebody could make something like that and use it on a day to day basis. It was suprisingly durable too, and the thing about bamboo is that it is incredibly strong, and if it breaks, it will just snap, and not bend like metal usually does. I also found out that the first showcased bamboo bike was on April 26, 1894.

There is apparently different ways to have a bamboo bicycle to include wrapping another bicycle with bamboo, but I think its much cooler to actually have a bike frame made competely of bamboo.

64/100 Starting a Soccer Club

I know, I know you are getting tired of me posting about soccer stuff. I will try to make this my last one for atleast the next week, maybe more. Sorry its what I know.

Any way, the company that I'm currently employed at has a subsidizing program for sports where you get enough people from the company to particpate in sports the company will help pay part of the cost. Well some people have taken it upon themselves to start company leagues, and up to a couple years ago there where only seem to be flag football(fall), basketball(winter), and softball(summer) so I took it upon myself to start the company soccer league and stick it right between baskeball and softball during the spring.

We recently completed the 3rd season of this league and people always seem to be asking me for more, so I got the idea last year of trying to give them more, and although my attempts faultered for this year, my goal for next year is to not only make the company league better, but to try and make it bigger. I want to make a corporate league, that has several local teams particpating in a soccer league.

I am looking at making it a full sided league playing 11v11 on full size fields, although that may seem a bit ambitions for most companies that want to participate, because the fitness level of most corporate type employees are not that of professional athletes, but that is why rules can be modified.

I really hope that I can get this to take off, because I am always trying to be the person that came up with something great, and I have this whole idea of making a corporate rec club or whatever you would like to call it. I'm sure if I get to that point I will think of a better term.

35/100 Marathon Running

In the last several months I have taken to being healthier and have started running more. I have recently ran a 5K race and this past weekend ran a completely abnormal type of race. While becoming healthier and running more I have become inspired to attempt a marathon. Actually I would love to run a triathlon, but I figure I should probably start smaller.

A marathon is a 26.2 mile course that is very trying especially if you attempt to run the whole thing. You can't just decide to run a marathon, you must train and prepare for it. I have taken to a 16-week training schedule, which to me seems like a marathon by itself. I was training for a half marathong before and had gotten up to 10 miles during training but then quit because I got busy. this 16-week training schedule should actually work out perfectly because the marathon I plan on running occurs the same day that my schedule has me running the marathon.

I haven't made it that far into the training yet, but the next thing I should probably do is actually sign up for the marathon, but I need to save up a little dough first. Guess I should start selling some stuff.

If your interested I suggest you look into it. if not for fun at least to start being healtier like I'm trying to be. The KC Marathon also has a half marathon, 5K run, and kid's marathon, which seem's interesting by itself. I hope to see you out there, and try not to make me look bad.
